Tri-Motor Meeting

trimotor We had a great kick-off meeting with about 18 members showing up.

The meeting was to ID most of the concerns and committees that we will need, and some most excellent thoughts were brought forth! It is quite obvious that this is not your normal PTA or PAC – this is about the one passion that we all have in common. The best part is, we’re just getting started!

Understandably, not everyone can participate at the same level. We would, however, love to add to the Sign Up List. That doesn’t mean that you will be tapped on the shoulder to head up a committee, it only means that you can have an opportunity to bring your ideas to the group. Or that, when the BIG EVENT happens, you will fully understand what needs to be done.

Let’s face it. You’re going to be at the airport anyway, to see that fine piece of history – you know you are! The chapter could sure use your help.

It is truly exciting to see this level of commitment, and to see how knowledgeable and connected individuals rise to the need.

The list of committee heads is far from complete, and we really must get the ball rolling. The EAA has a well-defined overview of how to handle this, but it really is just a minimum. With the level of commitment we are seeing, we hope to rise far above the minimum. So far that, next year, EAA calls US to ask if we want to sponsor another plane, like, maybe the B-25 or the B-24? How great would that be?!

As we work to get this going, we have decided that we need a few meetings close together, then we can loosen the schedule. Next Wednesday is our normal Board Meeting at Pizza Roundup, at 18:30. We will have a ‘pre-meeting’ for the Tri-Motor at 17:30. Again, all are invited, and you don’t have to stay for the Board Meeting, although you would be welcomed.

Please take another look at the ‘Ideas’ sheet. Feel free to make comments. We have committee chairmen for a couple of the items. Last minute additions to this list were a suggestion to involve the Boy Scouts, possibly as parking or public safety assistants, and to link up with the City of Lincoln. Tim Devine has already volunteered to work with the city.

Please keep the good ideas coming, and try to make next week’s meeting.

The Ford Tri-motor committee

trimotor We had a short turn out last Wednesday, which is understandable with the cool weather. February’s meeting will be at Cattlemens Restaurant, 2000 Taylor Road, Roseville, though, so we’ll at least be warm!

One of the points discussed was the commitment from EAA for bringing the Tri-motor to Lincoln. It’s actually happening! Not only an honor for us, but this can also be a huge money-making event for the chapter, but we need to get ready.

Next Wednesday, January 28, we will have a special meeting at Pizza Roundup, 2270 Nicolaus Rd. in Lincoln, starting at 18:00. The purpose will be to start formulating ideas for what must be addressed to maximize this event.

This document contains some thoughts that Gary put together, and we’re sure it isn’t complete or correct.

We need input!

and we need volunteers! The dates will be June 4-7, with the Tri-motor arriving on the 3rd (or earlier), and leaving on the 7th.

If you have just a morning or an evening, or just one day, or even just a couple hours, we would like to hear from you. This should be fun and we don’t want to wear anyone out. If you can’t stand, we have sitting jobs. If you can’t sit, we have standing jobs!

See the training video and the manual.

If you wish to add anything to the list, just email it to Gary, or print it out and bring to the meeting next week, or to the next chapter meeting.

I hope we fill up the meeting room at Pizza Roundup!

January Monthly Meeting on Wednesday 21st

Next Wednesday, January 21, will be our first meeting date of 2015. Although the night time temps are a bit cool, we have decided that it wouldn’t be too uncomfortable to hold a meeting in Tony’s Pizza Joint…..I mean, Tony’s Hangar….

For the new members, Tony’s hangar is the large hanger facing the runway, near the north end. We will start the meeting at 19:00, but come a bit early if you want to join us for pizza.

Just some reminders:

  • Chapter meetings are usually held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 19:00.
  • Board of Director meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month, 18:30.
  • Open Airport days (LRAA) are on the 3rd Saturday of each month, 08:00 – 12:00.

2015 dues are due. $20 for single membership, $30 for family. Dues can be paid by cash or check at the meeting, or via PayPal.
