1541 Member Meeting, Cattlemens, February 15th

Join your fellow pilots on Wednesday February 15th, at Cattlemens Restaurant, 2000 Taylor Road, Roseville again.

Our speaker will be Sonya from CalStar, which has merged with Reach and others to become AirMedCare. They now serve 32 states.

Each of our memberships needs to be renewed at the group rate of $55 per household.

Note that the cost of a medical airlift will often exceed $20,000, so this membership has a great value.

FAA Calls for Heightened Awareness of Class B Airspace

In a Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO) bulletin issued January 29, 2017, the FAA is calling for all pilots and flightcrew operating near the boundaries of Class B airspace to exercise caution and be aware of the risk of excursions out of and incursions into Class B airspace. According to the SAFO, all pilots and flightcrew should utilize published resources to become familiar with the vertical and lateral boundaries of Class B airspace they may be operating in or near. For more information, see the entire SAFO here.

Airport tours

Our very own Bruce Estes showed a couple of civilians around the airport, and they were very impressed. We’re going to try and do this every month on the first Saturday, when we’re at the hangar cooking breakfast anyway. We’ve set up a registration form, and you can access it here, or from the links bar at the top of the page.

The specific limitations and legalities of this legislation will be reviewed.

Pilots will be able to self certify if they have a current drivers license and have passed an FAA physical (regular or special issuance) in the past 10 years. They will need to take an on line course and pass a quiz, every 2 years. They must visit a licensed physician every 4 years The are not eligible if their medical has been cancelled, revoked or withdrawn.

1st Sat. Open Hangar, 2/04, 08:00 – 10:30

We will be having our first ‘breakfast and a movie’ of the year on Saturday, rain or shine.

Tim’s Carbon Cub is elsewhere for some service, so we don’t have to worry about putting it out in the rain.

So, come join your pilot friends, especially since it’s looking like it’ll be a non-VFR day.

BTW, we’ve decided that if we cancel a 1st Saturday Open Hangar day, we will make it a 2nd Saturday event. So watch here or for the emails. If you’re not getting notifications of events, meetings and changes, you should let us know.
