Last Month’s Meeting…

by Bruce Estes

The August Chapter 1541 monthly meeting was held on August 17 at our EAA hangar at Lincoln Airport. Ron Wright brought one of his humongous swamp coolers so the room temperature was reasonable. Tony Kasabasich did his usual great job of serving BBQ sirloin burgers and polish sausages, accompanied with chips and salsa, caesar salad, potato salad, and cookies for desert. The presentation was on traveling to Airventure and provided by Tony Kasabasich and Bill Wootton.

meetingTony discussed traveling by commercial air, recommending either Delta or Southwest to either Milwaukee or Green Bay, renting a car, and driving to Oshkosh. Bill told of flying his RV-6 from Lincoln, dealing with weather issues, and landing successfully at OSH. More details will be added on our website.

Ron Wright discussed an exciting program that will be chaired by one of our members, Bruce Robinson. The program is called “STEM” which stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. Other EAA chapters have had great success with partnering with aviation clubs at local high schools,
and administering this program. The participation rate with high school kids has been much greater than Young Eagles.

Bruce Estes and Richard Pearl gave a report on the recent Airport Advisory Committee meeting held at City Hall on August 17. This committee was formed to assist the City of Lincoln in maximizing the use of Lincoln Airport for the benefit of the City, along with pilots and airport tenants. The
major issue the City is currently dealing with is the expiration of one of the ground leases with the lease holder, Nunno Corporation. Our EAA hangar is affected by this lease expiration. The chapter meeting was completed at about 8:15. Plan on attending the next meeting as they are informative, fun, and you can discuss flying and airplanes with everyone. What an opportunity.

The Next Meeting…
