President’s Corner

Our chapter has had a busy month. We had our normal April activities, but added a new event, the Airport Fun Day, that was held on Saturday, April 13. I think that all attended thought it was a great event that brought an unexpectedly (to me anyway) large crowd of people from the community out to the airport and to our chapter.

We then had a very successful Young Eagle Rally on the first Saturday of May. We flew 76 Young Eagles using eleven aircraft and pilots from out group. Perfect weather and lots of smiles marked the Rally. We’ve established a pattern now: a spring Rally in May and a fall Rally in October, so look for next Young Eagle Rally this coming October.

In the coming month, we will continue our normal slate of chapter activities, but I do want to make everyone aware of a special opportunity to help our city of Lincoln’s Recreation Department conduct an Aviation Summer Camp for youth during the last week of June.

To be held Monday-Friday, June 24-28, our chapter has agreed to support the camp by providing a site (our hangar) and curriculum. The city has limited sign ups to just ten kids in the age range between 7 and 12.

Dan and Linda Masys from our chapter have agreed to be the camp’s coordinators for our chapter and have already created a framework of curriculum for the five day event.

We are in need of a few volunteers from our chapter to provide one-on-one and small group assistance in making the camp a success. The volunteers will need to be available during some or all of the afternoons of the week between 1 pm and 4 pm. The city will bring the kids to us: we will provide them the introduction to aviation and our airport. This is a great opportunity to support the city and possibly plant some seeds that someday becomes aviators. Please let me know though our chapter email address if you are interested in helping out.
