Ray Scholar Update

by Hannah Treehan

My first few weeks as a Ray Scholar have been great! I am now at 9 hours of flight time. Just over a week ago, I passed my Stage 1 check (which is a milestone in the curriculum we’re using), and I have now moved on to learning how to land. Last Wednesday, we did around 10 touch-and-go’s and a go-around; it was really fun, and I’m learning a lot.

I’ve also been doing a lot of ground school with my instructor, Mary Wick. Recently, I have been working a lot on Weather Services and Aircraft Performance in preparation for my written exam, which is scheduled for September 21st.

Though the reduced visibility means that we sometimes have to forgo flying, I’m using those days as opportunities to continue studying towards my written exam. I hope all this smoke clears up soon so that we can have blue skies again!

Once again, a big thank you to all of you for supporting me on this exciting journey. And special thanks to Scott and Shirl Whelan for being such great scholarship coordinators!
