Arrival of Ryan PT-22 and PT-21 aircraft for the October 12, 2024 chapter meeting. Will Gottenberg and Mike Anderson gave a ‘tag team’ presentation on these World War II military trainers, and what it is like to own, maintain, and fly them. The Ryan trainers were all built in San Diego and nicknamed “Maytage Messerschmitts” by the cadets that flew them, due to the distinctive sound of their five cylinder radial engines that you can hear in this video.
Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) to Runway: Danger Zone? May 2, 2024
This 38 minute pilot education presentation and discussion led by chapter president and CFII Scott Thompson was made at the May 2024 IMC/VMC club meeting. It describes some of the little known “gotchas” and risks associated with flying non-precision instrument approaches, particularly at night.
