President’s Corner

Welcome Chapter 1541 Members and Friends,

Let me start by say how great it has been seeing many of you at our 1st and 3rd Saturday breakfasts. Things are starting to feel normal again. If you haven’t attended one of our breakfasts, please come out and enjoy some great food and camaraderie.

On Sunday, August 22nd Hannah Treehan, our chapter’s second Ray Scholar, passed her FAA checkride and became our newest licensed Private Pilot. Congratulations Hannah! Her story is included in this newsletter.

Your EAA 1541 Board of Directors is growing, it my pleasure to announce the addition of Mary Wick and Paul “Dubs” Darbo. Welcome aboard. A few months ago, the Board approved starting a fund to purchase a permanent home/hangar, I’m pleased to announce the fund has over 12 thousand dollars toward an 80 thousand finish goal. A large portion of these fund donations are related to the efforts of Bruce Estes. Bruce has brokered the sale of a couple of donated planes and parts. If any of you have or know of a plane, running or not, parts or any other item that could be donated to the chapter for the benefit of the hangar fund, please let me know.

For you that have been regularly attending the virtual IMC meeting on the first Wednesday, last meeting VMC was added. The VMC portion may be more relatable to new pilots, no matter where you are in you aviation journey, I encourage you to attend as there is always something to be learned during these meetings.

Last month I spoke a little about my experience at Air Venture, today I’d like to mention the upcoming Reno Air Races. The races were started in 1964 and are held at the Reno Stead Airport (KRST). The races this year are September 15-19 with the Gold Races on Sunday. The event is more than just the planes racing, there is a large display area of planes including military aircraft, vendors, and my favorite, the STOL (Short takeoff and landing) drag races. If you attend a big brimmed hat and sunscreen are a must. Hope to see you there.
