President’s Corner

by Darren Coomler

Dear EAA 1541 Chapter Members,

Here we are in the hot days of summer 2020, I think a summer we all will not soon forget.

I hope all of you are well and managing to work through the new normal COVID-related requirements. I had hoped we would have held our first F2F chapter meeting this month, but the increase in COVID cases has affected that. As before, all our in-person chapter meetings and events have been postponed or canceled for the indefinite future.

We have had several Webex IMC and Chapter Member meetings that have been very well attended and will continue to replace the F2F meetings. I need to give a special thanks to Dan Masys at this time, without his effort I am afraid we would have no form of meetings. The last IMC meeting was cut short due to Webex limiting the time on free service. We (the chapter) will move forward to purchase a plan to allow for online meetings without interruptions.

The Board will be looking at Dan’s recommendation of equipment that will allow “hybrid” face to face meetings and broadcasting to members that may need to stay at home due to health concerns. Again, thank you Dan.

As you all know by now, Airventure 2020 has been canceled. In lieu of that EAA is presenting a “Spirit of Aviation Week.” Starting July 21- 28th, I encourage all of you to go to the EAA national website and add to your calendar one of many presentations they are going to have. Also, check out the vendor section. I have already looked at some of their “show specials” — just click on the hyperlinks to their websites.

I miss the face to face contact with all of you but are going to make do with these virtual meetings to stay connected and to continue to promote the chapter and aviation. I cannot wait to get up and enjoy some flight time with all of you very soon!

To happiness and health,
