President’s Corner

by Darren Coomler

Hello EAA Chapter 1541 members,

The days are getting longer, warmer and time to get out and enjoy. The pandemic continues to affect our daily lives and our activities related to the chapter.

Our Chapter Board and I meet last Wednesday to discuss when and what would need to be in place for the chapter to start meeting in person face to face (F2F). As you know businesses that have reopened have implemented certain practices and measures to safeguard their staff and guests, and we are planning on doing the same.

The Board is working to have a plan in place, and once we receive the green light from the local authorities, our F2F meetings can start without delay. We will start out small with our pancake breakfasts and member meetings. We will continue to monitor the requirement and public interest before planning Young Eagle and Airport Fun Day events. Let’s hope that July will be the month that we start our F2F meetings.

With all that said, while we have been sheltering in place aviation enthusiasm has progressed. Dan Masys reported to the Board the success of the IMC Club virtual meetings, and the attendance has been high and seems to be growing. If you have not joined in on one of the virtual meetings, I encourage you to do so, the scenarios of study and following discussions are very insightful for IFR and VFR pilots alike.

A personal aviation milestone has been achieved by a chapter member, Amy Whelan passing her check ride and receiving her Private Pilot License, Congratulations Amy! Amy will leave in the next couple of weeks to Embry Riddle (Florida) to continue her aviation career interests. We have other updates and mentions to follow in this newsletter and virtual Member Meeting Wednesday 6/17.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in person soon,
