President’s Corner

Welcome Chapter 1541 Members and Friends,

Finally, we can all meet in person! As many of you know the state is lifting the public health restrictions on gatherings this coming week. This will allow the chapter to resume with our
face-to-face (F2F) meetings. Our first F2F meeting since March of 2020 will be a Welcome Back! pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 19th, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. This will be our June chapter meeting, with the program being the opportunity to ‘chew and chat’ with other chapter members.

As the next few months are going to be a bit too hot to meet in the hanger for the third Wednesday evening member meeting, these meetings along with the IMC Club will continue to be online.

Your chapter Board of Directors has been busy looking forward and planning events for the remaining year. We have a full lineup of interesting meeting presentations, we are also have proposed dates for a Young Eagles Rally, Airport Fun Day, and possibly an Eagle Flight event. The Eagle Flight is basically a Young Eagles for adults who interested in aviation and/ or obtaining their PPL.

The chapter also has the opportunity to award a Ray Scholarship for this year. If you know of any young person that is interested in this opportunity, please contact any of the Board members and we can help with the application requirements. We have had the opportunity to award two of these scholarships to date, and our current recipient Hanna Treehan has a check ride scheduled for August.

Our first Ray Scholar, Amy Whelan, is continuing to make things happen. As many of you know, it was about a year ago that she passed her check ride and headed off to Embry-Riddle University the next day. This month she has also been awarded the Jack Burnham Scholarship, and has been selected by EAA national to be a mentor at GirlVenture at Airventure in July. Amy has also recently passed her written Commercial test and should be taking her check ride next month. Lastly, she has made the university’s Dean’s List! Amy is the epitome of the EAA mission aligning with her personal ambitions.

To continue the chapters activities the chapter needs a permanent meeting place, as we currently rent the hanger that we are meeting in. The Board has decided to move forward with plans to purchase a permanent home. Over the next few months, you will be seeing more info on focused fund raising to secure our future meeting space.

Remember Saturday the 19th at 8am, come out have some breakfast and enjoy some fellowship that we have all missed for the past year!
