West Side Airport Helicopter Operations

You may have seen the Chinook helicopter out at KLHM in the last month. Helimax was approved to use our ramp for testing. They are trying to get a proprietary internal water tank tested and FAA approved. They use a City of Lincoln water hydrant meter to fill the tank. As the area they were using is unavailable to them now since the airport is starting construction on the new above ground fuel tanks, they’re now be utilizing the West side of the field on the old runway near the only fire hydrant water source out there.

Please use caution if you have to access that area during helicopter operations.

Donation Items Needed for Raffle, Silent Auction

Our EAA Chapter Holiday Party is shaping up nicely as we put together the final plans for the Wednesday, December 11, evening at Cattlemen’s Restaurant in Roseville.

Though our intent is to have a fun evening sharing with our fellow chapter members, friends, and families, our chapter leadership also sees the evening as an opportunity to raise money to support our scholarship fund. Toward that end, we are asking all chapter members to consider if they have contacts or ability to secure donated items for the raffle and silent auction to be held during the party. We have a growing list of some significant things that we will offer, but we are in need of some more substantial and attractive items to add to our raffle and silent auction.

If you are in a position to go to a local business with which you have a special relationship, or if your employer might consider donating something, please pursue that avenue. These items are tax deductible to the donors…we have the paperwork that we can provide to document the gifts.

Items do not have to be aviation-related – hard to believe but there are other interests out there too. Please, if you are able to secure any items, email our chapter to let us know and plan on bringing these items to either the BBQ Lunch Saturday or the Member Meeting on November 20. We will provide information about the donors during the evening to acknowledge their help in our fundraising.

Let’s have a good time and do some good at the same time. We will use all, as in 100%, of the funds raised to increase our youth sponsorship and scholarship opportunities.

Hangar Space Available in our EAA Hangar

Our EAA Hangar work is nearing completion and we are ready to find a second tenant for the hangar to help offset our rental cost. We are looking for a tenant who wants to share space with an EAA Chapter and a Piper Warrior, so some flexibility is needed. Can’t be too big of an airplane, we are sharing here, and we will need to move the airplane in and out of the hangar, carefully, to accommodate our chapter needs.

Rent will be $250 per month and we could also accept a airplane project if the space needed is compact. Please email our chapter if you are interested. Chapter members have priority here, but spread the word too because we would like to get the space rented.

Realistically, we are talking RV size or smaller, perhaps a light sport?

The holiday party is set for December 11th

We are happy to announce that the EAA Chapter 1541 Holiday Party is set for Wednesday, December 11th, at Cattlemens in Roseville. We will start the evening at 18:00.

We are planning a silent auction as a fundraiser for our Richard and Susan Bristow Memorial Scholarship Program. This chapter program is funding sponsorships of young people to the EAA Air Academy at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, plus providing other scholarship and sponsorship opportunities.

We are still in the planning stages but we expect to also have a raffle and door prizes.

Tickets will be on sale shortly from any chapter board member. A board member can be easily identified as any person walking around with Holiday Party tickets in their hands offering them for sale.

Tickets will be available for purchase at any EAA 1541 event. We will accept cash (American), checks made out to EAA Chapter 1541, or Debit/Credit cards. You do not have to make a menu selection until your arrival at the Holiday Party.

Membership meeting, Wednesday 16th October

Come to EAA Chapter 1541’s monthly member meeting to be held this coming Wednesday, October 16th, at our chapter hangar. BBQ Dinner starts at 18:00 with our meeting beginning at about 19:00. This month’s program will be a presentation by our chapter’s own Mike Lagomarsino on his decades long service working at the McClellan Air Depot back when it was a huge USAF operation performing heavy maintenance, modifications, and overhauls of the operational Air Force fleet of aircraft. We’re looking forward to hearing Mike’s personal account of working at the depot from 1966 to 1999, very busy years at KMCC.
