Membership meeting April 18th

Because spring has come, we are returning to our EAA Hangar for our Monthly Member Meetings.

On Wednesday, April 18, we will start at 18:00 with a BBQ Dinner. The $6 meal includes all the normal stuff plus water and soda and coffee. At about 18:45 we will have short business meeting to cover a few items that should be of interest to the members. At about 19:00 we are going to do a bit of brainstorming about our new Learning and Development Program, a session that will led by Erika Wallin who is the board member running this new initiative.

Then, at about 19:30, Randy Sharp will present on The Flying Samaritans and his experiences flying with the volunteer group that supports medical clinics in Mexico. Randy will speak about the organization and his volunteer flights south of the border.

Open Hangar day on April 28th

All are invited to the EAA Chapter 1541 open house on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 9:00 am. The featured part of the day will be a 12:00 presentation by local aerobatic pilot, writer, and speaker Beth Stanton.

After earning her private pilot certificate in 2011, Beth Stanton sought unusual attitude training to conquer her fear of spins and inadvertently discovered the thrill of competition aerobatics. Now a competition aerobatic pilot, she has flown in dozens of aerobatic contests flying a Super Decathlon, Pitts S-2B and Lazer 230.

She is past president and director of the Northern California Chapter 38 of the International Aerobatic Club and was the 2014 U.S. Western Regional, Southwest Regional and California State Sportsman champion, and the 2017 third place U.S. Western Regional Intermediate Champion.

Beth is the author of feature articles and columns for EAA publications. She has conducted FAAST safety seminars promoting unusual attitude and spin recovery training and has spoken to organizations around the country including high schools, women’s associations, civic organizations, Women in Aviation National Conference and Sun N Fun. She has served as a panelist and mentor for high school girls at Women of Aviation Week events at venues in the San Francisco Bay area.

Beth will present a program entitled “Cleared for Takeoff, YOU are the Pilot of Your Life.”

Besides Beth’s program, we will have several light airplanes displayed for inspection, including one under construction by a chapter member,. We’ll also have a few “hands-on” activities for fun. Pilots and other aviation enthusiasts will be available for discussions on what goes on at the airport, what our EAA chapter is all about, or just anything about airplanes and flying.

We will offer a BBQ lunch at 11:00 ($6.00 covers the cost and all the fixin’s) and then stick around for Beth’s presentation at 12:00. Should be a fun day.

LRAA To Hold Its Annual Meeting

The Lincoln General Aviation Community is encouraged to attend the Lincoln Regional Aviation Association’s Annual Meeting being held in Hangar 1886 D-2 on Saturday, April 21, at 10:00 am. This is your opportunity to catch up on airport safety issues, airport improvements, nearby land development, and other information that affects your airport.

The Day begins at the Karl Harder Pavilion with an, LRAA hosted Aircraft of Historical Significance Display Day at 8:00 am, coffee and donuts as usual. The general membership meeting begins at 10:00 am with registration opening at 9:30 am (hangar 1886 D-2). The meeting also includes the LRAA Board of Directors election, at 11:30 a FAASTeam Safety Seminar followed by lunch. Below is the Schedule

08:00 – Historic Aircraft Display Day (gazebo)
09:30 – Annual Meeting Registration (hangar 1886 D-2)
10:00 – Business Meeting and Election of the Board of Directors

This informative seminar will include a discussion of properly entering and exiting an uncontrolled airport pattern including varied aircraft types using our airspace. Lincoln Regional is home to a varied mix of aircraft types and aviation activities, so understanding what to expect from other aircraft increases safety for everyone.

Our speaker and moderator for this event is James Hinson, CFII, Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), and retired FAA Operations Unit Supervisor. The Audience will have an opportunity to ask questions.
