Our online programs are taking shape

The chapter Board of Directors met via their first online teleconference this week, and approved plans to translate as much of our chapter meetings, educational programs and member interactions to telecommunications as possible.

Our first event that will begin the experiment will be the upcoming IMC Club meeting, scheduled for April 1, 2020 from 7 to 8 pm. You may have received recently an email from the FAA FAST system about the previously scheduled face to face meeting of the IMC Club. If interested you can go ahead and register online for Wings credit since the FAA has approved our transitioning this educational activity to an online format. There will be no meeting at the EAA hangar that evening, only the online session.

We are in the process of setting up a Webex service that will enable joining the event via an iPad, laptop or desktop web browser, and also calling in via a landline or cell phone. We will be sending out a web link and dial-in instructions as the date approaches, and look forward to our usual lively interaction and interactive scenario-based problem solving. As always, all are invited to participate, whether instrument rated or not.

We look forward to seeing as many of your smiling faces online as possible for upcoming chapter events.

March 21 Display Day Cancelled

The LRAA Display Day gathering has been cancelled due to the coronavirus threat. For pilots looking for their signoffs, the plan is to try and make this up some time in the near future with a special day, possibly in conjunction with the annual meeting to be held in May of this year.

COVID-19 cancelling events

Our chapter board of directors has been closely following the increasing concern about the COVID-19 virus as it impacts the local area. A decision has been made to cancel or reschedule all chapter events for next 30 days. Specifically:

Saturday, March 14: Lunch and Aviation News You Can Use – Cancelled
Wednesday, March 18: Member Meeting – Cancelled
Saturday, March 28: Airport Fun Day – To Be Rescheduled
Saturday, April 4: Pancakes and a Movie – Cancelled

As I am sure you all understand, there is no good reason to push ahead with optional social gatherings right now.

We will update as conditions change. Stay healthy.

Saturday, March 28: EAA Chapter 1541 Airport Fun Day.

We held our first Airport Fun Day last year and it was unexpectedly popular with the local community. Time for another one, then! We’ll have some static aircraft displays, some booths from local aviation schools and organizations, activities for kids from three to thirty, and more stuff too. Better yet, a free hot dog lunch for all attendees. Spread the word. Our Airport Fun Day will be held from 11:00 to 14:00. More information will be coming; we will need a high level of chapter volunteer participation for a successful event. Please plan to set aside a few hours on that date. Don’t say you have not been warned…
