Piper/Cessna ADs Issued

The FAA last week issued two Airworthiness Directives (ADs) that affect several models in the Piper and Cessna GA fleets. The Cessna AD affects certain models in the 300/400 series and involves replacement and repetitive inspection of hardware securing the elevator trim push-pull rod. The Piper AD affects certain Piper PA-28 models and requires inspection of the right wing rib. Both ADs go into effect on April 26, 2016.

Lincoln Airfest request for Ground Crew

We’ve been asked to assemble another ramp crew as we did such a great job with the Trimotor. We need people for the Lincoln Airfest, June 11. Good news – as part of the ramp crew, you save the $10 admission fee.

This is a 1 day event and we only need a crew of at least 12 pilot types, plus a number of relief guys, to marshal aircraft onto and out of the ramp area. The entire length of the ramp will be used to park aircraft.

If you can only work for a few hours, you would be valuable as a relief person.

There will be display aircraft, war-birds, helicopters and aircraft in and out for the airshow.

We will have an FAA approved ground frequency, so we’ll need a number of handheld radios to communicate with pilots and other ‘rampies’, when the incoming aircraft are told to change frequency from the CTAF to the ground frequency.

Remember that EAA Chapter 1541 is doing the early morning pancake breakfast, so you may not be able to do both of these activities.

The pancake breakfast begins at 07:00 and the aircraft and cars begin arriving at 08:00. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 10:00 and formation fly-overs will begin at 11:00. The event closes at 15:00.

Membership meeting on Wednesday

Join all your Lincoln EAA friends and pilots for another fun-filled meeting in our new hangar (S12) – you can’t miss it, now that Ken and helpers put up the large, red, ‘EAA’ sign letters on the building!

On Wednesday April 20th, our General Membership meeting will feature Dick Rupe and Ken Schwartz’s RV6 build. The plane will be on display in front of the EAA hangar. This will really be special because the plane will be covers-off for inspection of mechanical electrical and avionic installations. The plane is at the 90% done with 90% to go stage, so it’s a perfect time for a Q&A. As usual, the meeting will feature a barbecue.

“Airship Amelia” takes flight at LHM tomorrow at 7:30 am. Help needed

If you want to see a hot air balloon/dirigible/airship become airborne, be at the Lincoln Airport tomorrow, Sunday April 17th at 7:30am.

Cheers over California, a professional balloon coordination and marketing company, will be inflating and flying “Airship Amelia” from our tarmac.

In addition to the lift off, there’s also the opportunity to help in the assembly and hold-down, as this airship takes more than a few hands in the launch.

Cheers over California is the coordinating company for our hot air balloon rise at the June 11th AirFest.

So come on out, have fun, and see something VERY different.

Aluminum Overcast, EAA B-17 Tour

Over Memorial Day Weekend (May 27th-30th), Chapter 512, Placerville, is hosting the EAA’s B-17, Aluminum Overcast, at Mather Airport. This event will provide Flight Experiences and Ground Tours. The B-17 will be coming from Van Nuys and going to Portland; this is its only stop on Northern California this year.

National EAA will be setting up two trailers, one for flight briefings and the other for merchandise sales. Chapter 512 will be setting up a separate booth to promote their Chapter and to promote Eagle and Young Eagle flights. They are expecting major crowds.
