Or, if you want some free muffins and coffee and a place to sit for a couple of hours, then come on out Saturday. Hangar flying from 09:00 to 09:30, and the presentation will start at 09:30.

We are going to try to provide some interesting programs on a variety of subjects presented on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, working around other ongoing activities. Spread the word and check it out.

Auburn chapter meeting this evening

The Auburn Chapter would like to invite us to their April meeting tonight, Wednesday, April 12, 19:00 at KAUN. Below is the Agenda.

Soaring: The Story of Motorless Flight from the Earliest Gliders to Modern Sailplanes.

  • What attracts pilots to motorless flight?
  • When does a ‘glider’ become a ‘sailplane’?
  • What are the advantages of pursuing soaring?
  • What steps lead to earning an add-on glider rating?
  • Soaring vs Motoring: Can you have the best of both worlds?
  • What if I want to build a motorglider?
  • The soaring pilot’s motto is revealed.

Biography
For Tom Camilli, flying seems to be part of his DNA. Reared on episodes of Sky King, Whirlybirds and WWII flying movies, Mr Camilli soloed on his third birthday (in an orange crate “airplane” constructed by his uncle) and earned his pilot’s license before he was old enough to shave.

As with many aviators, real life and family obligations caused him to set aside his flight bag. But after a 40 year career as an educator, author and workshop presenter, he returned to the cockpit to tackle the challenge of learning motorless flight.

As a member of almost every acronymed organization associated with flying, he is an avid supporter of general aviation. He and his pilot-spouse reside in South Auburn.
