Our first Saturday of May special event will be entitled “Brunch with Bud”.

This will be a chance to meet Bud Anderson in person — the last living triple ace pilot of WWII, P-51 wingman of Chuck Yeager, and a career Air Force test pilot who grew up near Newcastle, California.

Brunch with Bud will be on Saturday, May 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the EAA hangar at KLHM, and will include a special meal and a chance to honor one of the most famous Greatest Generation pilots in the world.

For April our monthly chapter meeting will shift from Wednesday to Thursday, April 21st, with open mic hangar chat beginning at 6:45 pm and the main meeting starting at 7 pm.

Our program will be given by our chapter’s tech counselor, Dan Masys on the general topic of borescopes and what they are good for, and the specific item of a new, low cost, High Definition image borescope that can record audio, video, as well as make amazing still photos inside cylinders and other internal areas of an aircraft engine.

Last month, 4 airplanes and 10 people from EAA1541 flew to Modesto (KMOD) for the monthly Commemorative Airforce breakfast, which has now resumed.

This Saturday, April 9, we are again going, and looking for more company. Plan on departing KLHM around 8:30 for the approximately 30 minute flight.

Assuming you land on either 28 R or L, taxi across the large ramp on the left to the huge hangar that houses the breakfast. This event draws a large crowd, typically 150-250 people.

Our chapter’s monthly IMC/VMC club meeting for April will be held online from 7 to 8 pm PDT this coming Thursday, April 7. The topic for the IMC portion of the meeting will be a discussion of Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs) and when and how to use them even if you are not required to. The VMC portion of the meeting will be a “What Would You Do?” scenario of trying to rendezvous with another aircraft in flight where things don’t go as planned.

You’re invited to the Lincoln Regional Display Day

This Saturday, March 19th 0800 – 1200

The Lincoln Regional Airport Display Day will be held this Saturday, February 19th, at KLHM. The weather forecast is for rain showers in the morning becoming steady light rain in the afternoon. Looks like it will be moving into the pilot lounge for the administrative portion of our day.

Two of our Display Day members have stepped up to the plate and are taking their turn helping out running the event. Dan Flom and Mark Siemans will be the coordinators and will bel there to sign your paper work and answer any questions so please make sure to thank them for stepping up. Please consider doing the same and sign up for a future Display Day Saturday. The work party list will be there for you to sign up on. The EAA will be holding their Saturday morning hangar breakfast again so no donuts at our gathering.

For your “Aircraft of Historical Significance” to earn a display day credit, it MUST be displayed for a four hour period, so our display day begins at 0800 and ends at 1200 hours at LHM. So dust off your bird, bring it out for display, and don’t forget to get your paperwork signed. You must display your aircraft to get the credit!

The Display Day effort continues to need your help. Without it they are going to have to shut it down. So if you would like to see it continue you need to volunteer and become a coordinator team member and help run it. Please consider helping (especially those who directly benefit from the tax exemption). They will be answering any questions you might have. It’s actually fun and easy to do, so don’t be shy, give it a try!
