IMC/VMC club meeting for July this coming Thursday

Our online IMC + VMC club for July will be held from 7-8 pm PDT this coming Thursday, July 7th.  Since the ILS system recently became operational again at KLHM, our special topic will be how to fly an ILS approach.  The VMC “What Would You Do?” scenario will be a VFR flight to a coastal location where a fog bank is approaching the airport just as you do.

FAA Wings credit for this event is available by registering here, and all pilots are invited to participate.

First Saturday of the month Breakfast this week

Come join us for breakfast this coming Saturday, July 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the chapter hangar S-12 at KLHM.   The menu will include eggs, pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.  Young Eagle flights will be available on a space-available basis.

Third Saturday Breakfast and Display Day

Pancake Breakfast

Come join us for breakfast the first Saturday of each month in the chapter hangar S-12 at KLHM.   The menu includes eggs, pancakes, coffee and juice.  Our flight simulators are available for kids of all ages, and Young Eagle flights are available on a space-available basis.

Breakfast and a Movie

On Saturday, May 21 we hosted “breakfast and a movie” from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the chapter hangar S-12 at KLHM.  In the spirit of Memorial Day, we served eggs, red-white-and-blue pancakes, coffee and juice.  To honor veterans we also served creamed chipped beef on toast (S.O.S. — ask any vet what that means!) We showed the movie Battle of Britain and are pleased to confirm that the British did once again win the battle.  For intrepid wannabe fighter pilots we gave attendees an opportunity to fly either the F-18E Super Hornet in FlightSim1 or the Spitfire MkIX in FlightSim2.  Both were a hoot in the air, but definitely tested ones skill trying to land.
It was a fine aviation celebration for all!

Brunch with Bud on May 7, 2022

Our May 7, 2022 “Brunch with Bud” event honoring Colonel Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson was an educational and heartwarming event.  Col. Anderson is the only surviving World War II Triple Ace pilot and recently turned 100 years old.  More than 80 attendees visited our EAA hangar at Lincoln Regional Airport, had a tasty brunch and enjoyed hangar chat and a great presentation by one of the Greatest Generation’s most famous pilots.  For those who missed the event, the highlights (including Bud’s presentation) are available on the EAA chapter 1541 YouTube channel.

First Saturday – Brunch with Bud

Our first Saturday of May special event will be entitled “Brunch with Bud”.

This will be a chance to meet Bud Anderson in person — the last living triple ace pilot of WWII, P-51 wingman of Chuck Yeager, and a career Air Force test pilot who grew up near Newcastle, California.

Brunch with Bud will be on Saturday, May 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the EAA hangar at KLHM, and will include a special meal and a chance to honor one of the most famous Greatest Generation pilots in the world.

Membership meeting Thursday 21st.

For April our monthly chapter meeting will shift from Wednesday to Thursday, April 21st, with open mic hangar chat beginning at 6:45 pm and the main meeting starting at 7 pm.

Our program will be given by our chapter’s tech counselor, Dan Masys on the general topic of borescopes and what they are good for, and the specific item of a new, low cost, High Definition image borescope that can record audio, video, as well as make amazing still photos inside cylinders and other internal areas of an aircraft engine.

All aircraft owners, whether of certified or experimental aircraft, should find this an informative program that could help them save a lot of money on unnecessary maintenance. You can join the meeting on Thursday evening by clicking here. The link will also be sent out the day of the event.

Modesto (KMOD), monthly Commemorative Air Force breakfast, 04/09

Last month, 4 airplanes and 10 people from EAA1541 flew to Modesto (KMOD) for the monthly Commemorative Airforce breakfast, which has now resumed.

This Saturday, April 9, we are again going, and looking for more company. Plan on departing KLHM around 8:30 for the approximately 30 minute flight.

Assuming you land on either 28 R or L, taxi across the large ramp on the left to the huge hangar that houses the breakfast. This event draws a large crowd, typically 150-250 people.
