Call for volunteers for the Young Eagles rally on October 6th

Our chapter’s next Young Eagles Rally will be held on Saturday, October 6th. We’re expecting 75 kids to fly, and currently have 7 pilots.

Pilots, go here. Use the event code”1541″ to register.

If you signed up for our prior event, the sign up process is very quick.

This is a “private” event for pilot signup, thus the required code input. You will create an account with Flight Squid with your own password, which you will want to remember.

You will need to have your EAA member number to complete the sign up process, and it will also ask you to enter aircraft information. You will only need to do this once. Presuming we have future Young Eagle events and you participate, then that information will be automatically be entered when you register for those events.

If your plans change, it is a simple process for you to log in again and delete your registration for any event.

If you have not yet completed the process to be a Young Eagles pilot (application to EAA HQ and complete brief training and background check) or you are out of date (more than three years since completion), then you’ll need to complete that process before signing up on Flight Squid.

Volunteers – we need Young Eagle Ground Support (primarily helping Young Eagles to and from the airplane, providing ramp control, and ensuring ramp safety):

We have need for other event helpers too:

  • Welcome table for registration and check-in
  • Aircraft dispatchers to match pilots/Young Eagles
  • Chapter information table
  • Chapter members to answer questions and meet new friends
  • Other stuff we are working on

If you’d like to volunteer for any of these positions in a future event, please click here to email our Young Eagles Coordinator.

First Call for Young Eagles Pilots for October 6 Rally

Our chapter’s next Young Eagles Rally will be held on Saturday, October 6.

We are setting up a Young Eagles registration online process using EAA endorsed software named Flight Squid. This allows both pilots and Young Eagles to sign up online and completes much of the required Young Eagle paperwork in a seamless process.

This process is identical to the one we used for our May 12 Rally.

Pilots, go here. Use the event code”1541″ to register.

If you signed up for our prior event, the sign up process is very quick.

Young Eagles can register too.

Young Eagles event – October 6th

We are happy to announce that Chapter 1541 has scheduled another Young Eagle Rally on Saturday, October 6. For those few who may not be familiar, Young Eagles is an EAA program designed to introduce young people to aviation by offering a short, free airplane ride. The program was launched in 1992 and, nationwide, has provided well over 2 million rides. Our chapter last flew Young Eagles in May.

So what does this mean to you, the chapter member? Well, we need volunteers to help make this event a success. Volunteers are needed for pilots, ground handlers and event helpers. As you can see in the information provided below, the tasks are simple and will provide an opportunity to interact with the community in a positive way.

The October 6th Rally will be conducted between 09:00 and 13:00.

The Rally organizers need to determine which pilots in our chapter are currently qualified to participate as Young Eagle pilots. This would mean that you are on record with EAA headquarters with a completed and current background check. If you are such a pilot, have access to an airplane, and have interest in participating in our chapter’s Young Eagles Rallies, please let us know. We are making a list. (If you are not sure you are a currently qualified pilot, please contact us and we will help you find out).

Now, let’s look at what it takes to become a volunteer at our chapter Rallies.

Young Eagle Pilots:

  • Be a current EAA member and hold an appropriate airman’s certificate (Sport Pilot or greater)
  • Possess a current medical certificate (if applicable)
  • Be current to carry passengers in the aircraft you plan to use
  • Have a current BFR
  • Complete the simple online Young Eagles training course and basic background check, both of which need to have been completed within the last three years
  • For our events, have access to an aircraft that meets EAA requirements and has passenger liability insurance, preferably in amount that exceeds $100,000 per seat. (This amount allows a supplemental EAA policy to provide additional liability insurance.)
  • For our events, be a EAA Chapter 1541 member.

Young Eagle Ground Support (primarily helping Young Eagles to and from the airplane, providing ramp control, and ensuring ramp safety):

We have need for other event helpers too:

  • Welcome table for registration and check-in
  • Aircraft dispatchers to match pilots/Young Eagles
  • Chapter information table
  • Chapter members to answer questions and meet new friends
  • Other stuff we are working on

Please respond to this if you want to get involved early.

Successful Young Eagles Rally

We had an excellent Young Eagles Rally. We flew a total of 69 kids over five hours of flying. There were many chapter members and others who pitched in an helped make the Rally a success, and I want to make sure everyone knows how much it is appreciated. We had guys out at the airport at 05:45 this morning getting things ready, and a good group working on the ramp and cooking and providing administration and just being on hand to answer questions and help out. We had a few glitches but overall it went well.

In the next weeks we want to take a look at what we did right and what we could have done better today, so for anyone who participated please let us know if you saw problems that should be addressed next time. For those in the chapter who were unable to help out today, well, you missed a great activity and an opportunity to promote aviation to young people. But, take heart because we will have another Rally later in the year and you may be able to help then.

Thanks again to the eleven pilots who gave their time and aircraft, and to the multitude of helpers on the ground. We also need to thank NorCal Flight Center (chapter member Chris Braun) who generously offered us the use of their conference room for registrations, and also LRAA for the airplane demonstrator. And, the city of Lincoln and Rich and Tony provided some infrastructure stuff that we put to good use.

We have a Facebook posting on the Rally, so I would appreciate any comments or quotes from kids who were flown today, and also the posting of any photos that any of you may have taken that illustrates the day we had.

Thanks again to all who pitched in.

Young Eagles Rally on Saturday, May 12th

Our chapter Young Eagle Rally is coming up on Saturday, May 12. And, we are happy to say that we have almost filled all our time slots with kids. Right now, we have 68 kids and 11 pilots signed up for the Rally. Seven more kids and we are full up for the day.

We have a good team of volunteers already but we sure could use a few more.

  • We will have a sign-in area where the kids will check-in. We could use a smiling and patient face (or two) for help there… having a bit of computer knowledge will help here.
  • We will have some escorts that will lead kids and parents from the check-in area to the waiting area by the Gazebo at the airport.
  • We need some more folks to serve as escorts.
  • We need a few friendly people to man an information table in the waiting area to answer questions and just be friendly.

If you are available that morning please consider volunteering for the Rally – we need you. Please click here and let us know about your areas of interest.

The BBQ Lunch also begins at 10:30 am in the waiting area.

Come out and let’s provide some youth with an introduction to aviation.

Pilot Registration for the Young Eagle Rally for May 12

We are setting up a Young Eagles registration online process using EAA endorsed software named Flight Squid. This allows both pilots and Young Eagles to sign up online and completes much of the required Young Eagle paperwork in a seamless process.

This is our first attempt at this but I am requesting that each pilot who plans on participating as a Young Eagles pilot on May 12 to register for the event ASAP using this link.

Use the event code “1541” to register.

You will create an account with Flight Squid with your own password, which you will want to remember.

You’ll need to have your EAA member number to complete the sign up process, and it will also ask you to enter aircraft information. You will only need to do this once – when we have future Young Eagle events and you participate, then that information will be automatically be entered when you register for those events.

If your plans change, it’s a simple process for you to log in again and delete your registration for any event.

Please provide any feedback as we are interested in your experiences with the process.

We will create a Young Eagles participant signup after we see how this process works for pilots.

If you have not yet completed the process to be a Young Eagles pilot or you are out of date (more than three years since completion), then please go to the EAA website and complete that process before trying to signup on Flight Squid.
