Airport Fun Day, next Saturday September 14th

Another reminder about the chapter’s Airport Fun Day set for next Saturday, September 14th, between 11:00 and 14:00. This event is a chapter initiative to bring families out to see our airport and our chapter, so we are providing a display of static aircraft, a hot dog lunch, and a variety of activities that appeal to children and families.

So, come out to your local airport for a day of fun, games, lunch, and if you are between 8-17 yrs. old, find out how you can register for a free airplane ride on October 12th, 2019!

There will be different types of planes to see, with pilots to explain how aircraft fly and special features they have.

Learn all about aviation related career opportunities for your future.

See the very latest in radio controlled model aircraft.

A child-size airplane will be available for the young ones to play on.

The last Fun Day was a tremendous success, so let’s make this one even better.

We still need volunteers for help with parking, the displays, managing the ramp etc. Email us if you can help.

Saturday, September 14: EAA Chapter 1541 Airport Fun Day.

We held our first Airport Fun Day back in April and it was unexpectedly popular with the local community. Time for another one, then! We’ll have some static aircraft displays, some booths from local aviation schools and organizations, activities for kids from three to thirty, and more stuff too. Better yet, a free hot dog lunch for all attendees. Spread the word. Our Airport Fun Day will be held from 11:00 to 14:00. More information coming in August; we will need a high level of chapter volunteer participation for a successful event. Please plan to set aside a few hours on that date. Don’t say you have not been warned…

Lunch and a program, Saturday 11th

We’ll be cooking a barbecue lunch from 11:00 to 12:00, then we’ll have a discussion about the Young Eagles event last weekend – what worked well, and what we can do better next time, along with any memorable parts of the event. We’ll also have a slideshow of pictures from the event, so send us links to any pictures you took!

All are welcome to participate!

Young Eagles Rally was a success

We flew 76 kids on Saturday, and we’ve started a photo gallery here.

We had eleven pilots who donated their time, airplanes, and fuel costs (at $4.90 per gallon for avgas these days) who made numerous flights between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. We also had a good and dedicated group of volunteers from both our chapter and local community who served as the ground crew to make the event a success. The two gyroplanes that participated were a hit with the Young Eagles, as was the Globe Swift that added a classic touch to the ramp scene. The other eight participating aircraft were also busy all day with flights carrying the “eaglets.”

The Rally was a complete success and everyone had a good time. We exposed several dozen families to the Lincoln Airport for the first time and the experience was a good one for them.

There was a lot of behind-the-scenes planning and work that went into this event, most of which is only noticed because the event came off so well. Nonetheless, it should be mentioned that a Young Eagle Rally is not a spontaneous event and it requires the investment of some significant time and effort by several in the chapter, particularly our chapter’s Young Eagle Coordinator, Cheryl Andrade.

Our chapter’s next Rally is scheduled for October. Young Eagle Rallys are are a cornerstone in the national EAA organization’s initiative to introduce the youth of America to aviation, and the program has provided more than 2.1 million free rides since it began in 1992. Our chapter is eager to add to that number.

Congratulations to all who participated and made yesterday’s event such a success.

Airport Fun Day – April 13th

As part of the build up to the Young Eagles event on May 4th, we’ve decided to have a fun day at the hangar on April 13th.

Mark your calendars – We’re aiming to have aircraft, aviation themed events and movies, a flight simulator, plus lots of volunteers to answer questions about flying, careers in aviation and so on and (obviously) a barbecue lunch. If you have any ideas about other things we can add, let the board know!
