January IMC/VMC club online meeting Thursday Jan. 4, 2024
The IMC/VMC club meeting for January will be held Thursday, January 4th beginning at 7 pm Pacific time. The program will include discussion of two “What Would You Do?” video scenarios. The VMC scenario involves a flight to a remote airport in the desert east of San Diego, where you bounce twice trying to land and are unsure of what to do next. The IMC scenario involves an IFR training flight where communications become garbled at a critical time.The link to join this meeting at 7 pm is included below, and all are invited to participate and share their knowledge and experience.

IMC/VMC club online meeting Thurs. October 5 at 7 pm PDT
Our online IMC/VMC club meeting for the month of October will be held this coming Thursday beginning at 7 pm PDT. This interactive educational event will feature two “What Would You Do?” video scenarios. The IMC scenario will involve an IFR approach where, after breaking out from a 700 foot overcast on final approach, one of the gear legs of your retractable single is not down and locked. The VMC scenario involves a takeoff from Leadville, Colorado in a Cherokee 180 where you get distracted and your plan to make a go-no go decision based on actual takeoff performance goes awry.
All participants are invited to share their experience and decision making in these situations of unexpected challenges.

September IMC/VMC club online meeting Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. PDT
Our September 2023 IMC/VMC club meeting will be held online via Zoom from 7-8 pm PDT on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
This interactive educational event will feature two “What Would You Do?” video scenarios. The IMC scenario will involve an IFR approach where ATC issues a revised landing clearance that you are not sure whether to accept, even though it would be simpler to do so than doing a missed approach. The VMC scenario involves a long solo cross country flight where you begin to feel ill enroute.
All participants are invited to share their experience and decision making in these situations of unexpected challenges.
IMC/VMC club online meeting on Thursday, August 3 at 7 pm PDT
Our IMC/VMC online club meeting will be from 7 to 8 pm PDT on Thursday, August 3rd. Our program will feature a combined IFR+VFR “What Would You Do?” scenario involving a night flight from a Southern California airport that has been in the news recently, over the SoCal mountains to Arizona. Mid-flight something happens and the flight instruments don’t make sense any more.
In addition to our group discussion, there will be a brief tutorial presentation on the factors that caused the unexpected challenges that the pilot experienced. We look forward to a lively interchange and all are invited to participate. To join the Zoom meeting, click here at 7 pm on Thursday 8/3.

July 22 BBQ Lunch and Program cancelled due to heat forecast
We’re sorry to say that the BBQ Lunch and Program scheduled for this coming Saturday needs to be cancelled due to the excessive heat forecast for the day.
The program will be rescheduled for our October BBQ Lunch meeting on October 21.
For anyone involved with the Young Eagle Rally planned for this Saturday from 8 am to 10 am, that also will need to be cancelled.
Our next chapter events will be the Zoom Online IMC/VMC Club on Thursday, August 3rd, and the 2nd Saturday Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 12.
Saturday, June 24th BBQ lunch and Program
On Saturday June 24th we are having our BBQ Lunch, Meeting, and Program beginning at 11:00 am. For our program this month we have a special guest, Mr. Phil Speck, a Vietnam-era USAF pilot who flew KC-135s and later flew in the first Gulf War in the early 1990s. He will present his experiences as a military pilot.
Lunch starts at 11:00 at our hangar at the Lincoln Regional Airport. If you are not familiar with our hangar’s location, come to the airport and just follow the “EAA” signs. The grill is hot from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. when it shuts down, so come early. BBQ Lunch is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids 12 or under, and $25 for families. We’ll have a short business meeting at 11:45 a.m. and then Capt. Steck will present at 12:00 noon.
IMC/VMC club Thursday, June 1 at 7 pm
Our online IMC/VMC club meeting for June will be held from 7 to 8 pm PDT this coming Thursday, June 1. The IMC “What Would You Do?” involves a flight into IMC stormy conditions. The VMC portion of the meeting will have a presentation on Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), including what to do if you inadvertently fly into a TFR and are intercepted.

IMC/VMC club online meeting Thursday, May 4 at 7 pm PDT
Our online IMC/VMC club meeting for May will be held from 7 to 8 pm this coming Thursday, May 4. The IMC “What Would You Do?” involves a morning departure from San Carlos airport while Bay Area fog is causing low IFR conditions, and a problem that develops right after takeoff. The VMC scenario is on the opposite side of the country, with a late afternoon VFR departure planned; while you are lined up for takeoff, a landing aircraft in front of you runs off the runway.

Fly-out to Nancy’s Airport Cafe at Willows/Glenn airport on Saturday, April 29th
We are holding our first chapter fly-out of the year this coming Saturday, April 29. The participants will gather at 9:00 am at the Gazebo, at KLHM and depart en masse, for a fine brunch at Nancy’s Airport Cafe located at the Willows/Glenn County Airport (KWLW).
For those aircraft not able to carry extra passengers or you just want to meet at Nancy’s, please plan to arrive at Willows at about 10:00 am. As noted below, we are trying to match chapter members who don’t have access to an aircraft a chance to participate also, so we want any pilots who can carry passengers to meet at the KLHM Gazebo at 9 a.m.
Willows is 64 fun-filled air miles northwest of Lincoln.
We are also trying something new for this event. We are using SignUpGenius to see if this will help organize the fly-out. We are asking all who wish to participate to use this link to go to the sign up page, either as a pilot/plane or as a passenger. We’ll try to include as many non-pilot chapter members as possible as passengers…this will depend on how many pilot/planes participate and the ability to accommodate passengers. We are limiting the passenger sign-ups to just ten individuals. Please note that we cannot promise that we will be able to get all the passengers who sign-up on an airplane going to Willows.
This is the first organized chapter fly-out we’ve had post-COVID, so we are putting our toe in the water to determine the interest in this and future fly-outs. (As of right now, we are planning fly-outs for the five-Saturday months this year…that would be April, July, and September.)
Also, a word of warning: we are using the free version of SignUpGenius which is very advertisement-heavy. Verify what you are clicking on as you go through the signup process to ensure you are not actually clicking on an advertisement.
If this process works well, the chapter may spring for a paid, ad-less version of SignUpGenius.
