“The plan for this week’s fly-out is Chester Rodgers up at Lake Almanor, the identifier is O05. There are bikes that they loan out to get into town, I called and there were only 6 but it’s only about a mile, and it’s not a bad walk. Plan on being there at 11:30, hope to see you there!!”
The RVators have a flyout on July 27th:
“For those of you that are not at Oshkosh this weekend I think we will be going to the 29er diner in Petaluma, Hopefully it will be cooler there than it’s been here in the Valley,we plan on meeting on the ramp at 11:30, Hope to see you there:-)”
The RVators have a flyout on July 20th:
“This Saturday we are planning on meeting at Keith Peterson’s for the Sacramento RVators meeting in Grass Valley, His house is on the north side of the runway, when landing on 25 his house is on the right side, there will probably not be enough parking on the right side so you might want to park in the transient parking on the left and walk across the runway, just look for the RVs.”
We are having an exciting meeting Wednesday evening at 19:00 in hanger T9. Our presenter will be Jim Hockett, and he will be talking about a project he built and flew. It is a remarkable aircraft required a master builder, engineer and machinist. We will forgo the BBQ as it was decided that the temperature in the hanger will be well over 105 degrees. We will have some cold drinks and water… hope to see you all there!

This week (7/6) will be a short hop over to Willows (WLW). Plan on lunch at noon.
A great Fly Out is in the Planning stage for 7/12-13 for McMinnville, Oregon. Leave on Friday morning and return Sat! Visit the Evergreen Aviation Museum (home of the Spruce Goose). I know the notice is late, but we do need to know ASAP if you are going. Just as soon as Richard knows who is planning the flight I will email the hotel and car information to you!
Due to the heat we are going to cancel tonight’s movie at the airport. If it is 95 outside it will be well over 100 in the hanger. We will reschedule this.

Just a quick reminder that Wednesday night will be our June member meeting. BBQ at 6:00pm and meeting at 7:00pm. It will be held in the same hanger as it was last time. Hanger T6. According to the weather gods it should be cooler temps… Take a look at May’s meeting minutes.

The Development of the XV-15 Tilt Rotor Aircraft
A brief history of the evolution of the tilt rotor aircraft will be given, including a discussion of the severe technical deficiencies which resulted in crashes of early research aircraft. A focused joint NASA and Army research program lasting two decades produced potential solutions to the technical problems. To validate the analytical and experimental solutions, the Army/NASA XV-15 Tilt Rotor Research Aircraft was developed to “Prove the Concept” in flight. After over 25 years of flight testing, the XV-15 was retired to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (NASM) in 2003. The successful XV-15 program spawned the military V-22 Osprey and the executive AW-609 tilt rotor aircraft programs.
The speaker, Marty Maisel, is a member of EAA Chapter 1541 in Lincoln and Chapter 526 in Auburn, CA. He obtained his SEL pilot certificate in 1966 and is currently working on a plans-built aircraft project. Marty worked in the development of tilt rotor and related VTOL technologies from 1967 to his retirement in 2002. Marty was a member of the XV-15 Tilt Rotor Research Project Office at the NASA Ames Research Center in Sunnyvale, CA since its inception in 1972. He managed the XV-15 Project for the last two years of its flight testing at Ames.
